TIMELINE OF THE WORLD/LITERATURE

The book: The Bible

Today's entry: Proverbs 24

Don't fall in with bad crowds and chow down on some honey. Although I'm wondering if honey was a metaphor for wisdom.

GOING THROUGH THE YEARS OF FILM/EARLY 20th CENTURY WORLD EVENTS

Today's film: Bears and Bad Men (1918)

I do have a fear of running into a bear anytime I find myself in a wooded area. They rising amount of social media posts of people filming bear sightings in my neighborhood don't help. Homie in this movie spends a good amount of time running from a bear though the film tries to be cute by showing that at the end of the movie all that bear wanted to do was lick the guy's face. I don't think so, pal. I'm sure that was just a taste test.

I dug the little effect (using a guy in a bear suit) where a mule kicked the bear who rolled back into the house with the guy (the guy that isn't Laurel).  Also, there was the classic gag of the dude smittenly stroking a girl's face whilst looking away when the father takes her away and mean-mugs the guy at close range, so now he's stroking the guy's beard, thinking he's still with the girl.

Today's additional film: Just Rambling Along (1918)

It was only eight minutes and some change so why not fit it in? What a treat it turned out to be. Although I didn't bust up Three Stooges-level of laughter, this one was way funnier than all of the solo Laurel and solo Hardy shorts that I've been watching. I noticed Hal Roach (who directed all of the great Harold Lloyd shorts I've watched thus far) directed this. Might that be the difference maker?

Also, my man Bud Jamison (a regular Three Stooges antagonist) is in this as the chef! It felt like when I went back and noticed Snub Pollard (who I came to know as a Harold Lloyd short regular) in a few Stooge shorts such as Phony Express and Three Pests in a Mess.

I really enjoyed the gag where one of the doormen keep taking Laurel's hat to hang up on a hat rack. After a few attempts to enter with his hat on but getting it taken each time, Laurel grabs a second hat from the rack so that when the doorman takes it he's still got a hat to throw on. Muy slick.

TOMORROW'S ENTRY: It's back to the Larry Semon party with "Frauds and Frenzies" (1918)

DRAGON BALL Z

NEXT EPISODE: Another Super Saiyan?

The first bit of combat for Trunks which is basically just him aura farming. (NGL, that genZ term is actually a newfangled term that I seem to be down with lol). Frieza throws his strongest, final-boss-stage stuff at him which tells me that Trunks is about to punk this guy and punk him out he did, cleaving him in half.

It bothers me that I don't seem to remember these Trunks episodes when I watched the DBZ Cartoon Network run in the late 90s. I remember the androids and Cell which came after this. So I don't know. It works out though because I'm watching this dope entry with fresh eyes.

TOMORROW'S EPISODE: Welcome Back, Goku (Aaay, the king...has apparently returned!)

 STAR WARS

YOUNG JEDI ADVENTURES

Today's episode was: Aftershock/Feather Frenzy

Aftershock seems to have struck some sort of chord with me. A village suffers an earthquake and needs assistance but the king and queen couldn't care less as they literally sit atop their throne eating grapes. The prince doesn't seem to care either. The younglings prove to be greater beings than I because it wouldn't have taken me long to round up a posse and march that castle.

The fathiers from The Last Jedi make an appearance. I haven't seen those things since they faked me out in The Last Jedi as I thought that the stampeding herd in the movie were podracers about to be shown.

Also, the people of this planet have pink skin which reminded of how in the Expanded Universe of old, there was a Sith species that had red skin. It would have been kind of cool if these villagers would've been Sith species while not being Sith religious. But it's fine this way too. It widens the galaxy.

I watched today's DBZ episode in between these YJA episodes since 5PM is my designated DBZ timeslot. This gives Feather Frenzy a grievous disadvantage coming off those 20 minutes of aura farming Trunks but I call on the words of Master Qui-Gon: "Keep your concentration here and now where it belongs" don't expense the moment.

Feather Frenzy reminded me of a ton of things. The baby, giant bird invasion that Nash is dealing with reminds me of when the gizkas take over your Ebon Hawk in KOTOR (which is a Star Trek "Trouble with Tribbles" reference in itself). When they're herding the birds in flight en-route to their destination and Kai has to corral a straying bird, it reminded of some of the herding missions in Red Dead Redemption. When they reunite the birds with their parents among the tall cliffs, it looked like something straight out of the James Cameron Avatar movies.

I also continue to enjoy the animated depictions of some of The High Republic content from the books such as the Jedi Vector ships in this episode.

TOMORROW'S EPISODE IS: Best Friends/Happy Trails

VIDEO GAMING

THURSDAY

M.U.S.H.A. (Sega Genesis)

I started playing Phantasy Star III because I was waiting to resub to Nintendo's online service to play the M.U.S.H.A. that they have on their Sega Genesis lineup but since I still haven't come across the disposable income to do so, I might as well just start that game up through nefarious means.

One day ahead of Vintage Video Game Night, I fired up M.U.S.H.A. and played through the first level. Pretty hectic and longer than I expected! Don't give me any accolades though because I'm a save scummer. It's a situation where I would have eventually gotten past whatever situation, save scumming just saves me the time I already don't have time of during the day.

I'm a fan of 1942 and Lifeforce but these scrolling shooters are a dime a dozen at this point but I'll try to give M.U.S.H.A. it's fair shake.

THURSDAY

NO MAN'S SKY NIGHT

Turns out it isn't even installed on my PS5! I think I had deleted to make space for WWE 2K26 whilst still having 2K25 and 2K24 on my storage. Now that 2K24 is offline, I deleted it making space to re-download NMS. Since the DL isn't exactly the fastest, I threw on a few AllTheShinies video on his playlist of videos of him going through the game.

The game is so open-ended that I found myself with a lack of creativity so crippling that I never knew what to do next. So I made a plan to get another ship on my roster that isn't a giant, slow and lumbering, cargo-hauling Winnebago, so I can move more like a starfighter of sorts. After that, I'll seek out a Corellian corvette alternative.

One thing that Shinies is doing in the videos I'm watching is hunting down the flora and fauna which I haven't done for the planet that my settlement is on (at least I don't think). So there's another thing in the game that I can do. Lord help me after that. I need to tap into mid90s me.

Oh hey, it finished installing as I'm writing this. Fuck it, let's fire it up real quick even though the clock just hit 11PM. Upon bootup, all the f+f on my current settlement's planet has been logged and it turns out I had a couple of fighter looking things aboard my freighter so I switched out my cargo hauler for a spiffy-looking white starfighter called "The Crescent Asterisk" (I don't remember if the game named it or I did) but some of the wings behind the cockpit do kind of resemble an asterisk.

PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING/PRO WRESTLING GAMING

WWE 2K26

Activated some RXP boosts in the season 3 ringside pass and did some World Tour which was probably a waste since those matches seem to be designed for you to pull your hair out.

 WWE 2K20

Booked the September, week two, editions of SmackDown '00 and WCW Nitro shows. I think I'm finally ready to run it again.
